The company was established shortly after World War II when Mr. Leslie Darby returned from R.A.F service in North Africa. Armed with just a wheelbarrow and a strong determination to succeed, he worked long hours and was eventually rewarded when the company secured several local housing contracts. These contracts were crucial to the company’s early growth, leading to its conversion to private limited status in 1956.
Initially, the business focused on the domestic market. However, it naturally shifted towards the commercial sector, specializing in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installations & by the 1980s, the domestic side of the business had closed.
Leslie’s son, Mr. John Darby, joined the family business and worked alongside his father for many years before taking over as Managing Director. The company’s reputation and success continued to grow. Shortly after the passing of Mr John Darby in 2008, the Darby family involvement within the business came to a natural end.
Mr. Carl Horton, who joined the company in 1983 as an apprentice Technician, worked his way through the ranks to become the Commercial Manager, before taking over as Managing Director in 2010 and furthered the company’s success. Although the company’s structure and shareholding has changed over the years, it has maintained the values and close attention to detail of a family business.
Carl’s son, Mr. Chris Horton, joined the company as an apprentice in 2009 and after learning the business for over 15 years has taken over as the Company Director. Ensuring continuity in leadership, operations and company vision whilst bringing new perspectives & maintaining the legacy and foundation established by his father.
There are currently three father / son families within the business providing strong continuity for the future.
